Hello

I am experiencing a problem with a users mailbox.

I created anew mailbox for an existing NT client. But strangely the user can send emails, but cannot receive external mails. Internal mails are recoived ok, but all external ones sit on the exchange 5.5 server.

I have tried a temp fix, which is to redirect mails for the user sitting on the exchnge server to their mailbox- i set up a rule in outlook for this. But I know this is not the right way to solve the problem.

Stranger still is that I set up anew mailbox in exactly the same way for another user and that works fine.

I have restarted IMS but it made no difference.

Any suggestions and reasons why this is happening would be of great help.
Many thanks

check the smtp addres in the users mailbox --> email address and make sure it is correct. Also i would try setting up a second smtp address on the users box like test@whatever.com and see if he/she can recieve messages from that smtp addy.

Dear bigdog92.

thnak you for the reply, but it didn't work. I created another mailbox for the user, but they could not rcv eternal mails only internal mails. Please help!!!

i'd have the user make a pst file save all his messages in that backup contacts calendar etc and remake the box but thats just me.

When a message is sent to the user does it generate anything in the Event Log?

Maybe you could try switching on message tracking to try and diagnose the problem.

thanx everyone for your input, but im still having the same problems. well another mystery is that the user is sarahj and this doesn't seem to work wh i use that name for the mailbox, but i tried saraj and that works perfectly ok. am i missing something her? pls help me!

I have seen a similar problem when a mailbox was hidden and a second one was created with the same name. Exchange then seems a bit confused and either hold the mail or sends it to the other mailbox

dear jimorus
thanks for this. I did hide the user's former mailbox. But how did u solve the problem then?

Make sure that the name and alias on the hidden mailbox are different from the one on the live mailbox

jim

check one more thing for me. Is the alias name the same as the nt account name? If not try making it the same.
