Did system tools backup. Formatted HDD, reinstalled XP/Pro with all updates. Did system tools restore. Files restored, but not in User Acct setup during XP installation. Now, my user accts are waiting for action, but data is right next door under original names.
How to get the user accts to refer to the restored Doc&Settings I restored please?
PS: I also saved MyDocs, email, etc separately just in case restore didn't work as expected. Darned if it didn't !!
Thanks

811151 - How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile

If you have a spare partition available, and want to ever perform the exercise you have just had trouble with, have a look at using ASR. I have never had the sort of problems you are describing when I use ASR (assuming the Documents and Settings folders are on the same partition as Windows).

How to Set up and Use Automated System Recovery in Windows XP

I naively thought Accessories / backup (restore) would recreate user accounts same as on backup computer. Wrooooooong.
Will move all restored data into the user environment set up by XP/Pro during initialization even tho the name is really wierd. I suspect the wierd default user is somewhere in the registry, and I don't want to play around in there trying to make it point to the restored environment.
Caution before valor.

Thanks (again!)
