I have a Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory. I reset a Users password last week. Since then, every morning she has logged onto Outlook, the account gets locked out.

Outlook prompts her for logon details, the first time she enters these, the account locks out. I unlock the account, she enters the same details again and it logs on fine.

Any ideas what might cause this or how to fix it?

Thanks

My bet is the user has a program/service on their machine that is using their logon credentials. Check to see if there is any service locally that isn't starting up properly and verify what account it's using to startup.

I thought that may have been it, but all Services are Local Account or Network Service.

I checked the Event log on the Clients pc and seen the following related errors:

Source: LSASRV
Event ID: 40961
Description: The Security System couldnt establish a secured connection with the Server LDAP/servername.domainname. No authentication protocol was available.

Source: Userenv
Event ID: 1006
Description: Windows cannot bind to domainname.com domain (invalid Credintials). Group Policy processing aborted

----

The only changes recently are that I changed the expiry term of passwords from 60 days to 30 days, in Group Policy.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Disjoin and rejoin the computer to the domain.

If I do that, will I have to reinstall all applications & settings after I rejoin??

Rejoining will not change applications or settings.

OK, I removed her from the domain and set her up as part of a workgroup. Rebooted the pc and it wont let me login.

I didnt reset her local user account password, so I dont know it. Is there a way of logging in now?

I tried Guest & password 'guest', Administrator with a blank password...what can I do??

Thanks

You will have to use the local administrator account to log on and then join the computer back to the domain. You would have set the local admin account p/w when you initially setup the computer. Generally IT departments will use a default or known only to the IT password for this...but it appears you haven't done this?

I reset the local Admin password using a boot disk and managed to get her back on the domain.

Unfortunatly, this didnt fix the Account lockout problem..

That's good.

But, as to the problem, I'm sorry, but the only explanation that I can think of is that there is a service/program using her old credentials, which will result in exactly the behaviour you're seeing.

Double check.
