I repartitioned and formatted my drive. When conducting a clean install I used the boot disks then got a error informing me there is no fixed disk present. I checked my Cmos and it could not auto detect my HD , I had never had this problem with this hard drive before. I booted with a dos boot and deleted the partition, remade a dos partition and reformatted again to no avail. I tried the 2000 setup once again and it still could not find my hard drive. I have verified the integrity of my hard drive and it is fine. The system recognizes it on start up but 2K does not see it and either does Cmos...I am at a loss ..Please HELP!!...Thx everyone...HC

If it isnt seen in the system cmos on start you should check and see if hdd is set to auto in the bios.If it is try reseating the cable. If the bios doesn't see it the operating system install sure wont.

If your hard drive is connected via a SCSI or ATA100 card then you need to change the cable back over to the motherboard IDE connector until you successfully load the card's drivers in. I have heard this is a problem with Windows 2000.

First id like to thank you guys for your response. I am not plugged in through a controller card of any type...just my on board ide. I have reseated the drive but it still will not recognize the fixed disk. To see if the hd would work I put in a 98 disk and it would have installed. I am going to do another format and a new dos partition. Then I am going to try and boot right from the win 2000 cd itself...this I have not tried yet..I have only tried the 4 boot disks. Hopefully thos will work..I was thinking about it all day in class..
