Use TN802B MapD in place of TN801B MapD

We lost our primary TN801B Mapd to a crash and are now using our backup TN801B MapD. We do have a TN802B MapD that I had thought to use as the current backup but I'm being told by the person programming it that he can't program it like the TN801B and that it is a different card.

Does anyone know if the TN802B can be used in place of a TN801B?

If the TN802B can not be used in it's place, is there someplace I can send my crashed TN801B to get it repaired?

Or does anyone know of a source for a refurbished or working used TN801B?

Thanks for any help on this as we are running without a spare and I'd like to get that taken care of as soon as possible.

The TN802B was the original IP Trunk card that Avaya brought out in V8. That was subsequently replaced with the TN799 (C-LAN)/TN2302 (MedPro) configuration.

as 4merAvaya correctly stated, tn802 is an old ip-trunk (t1/e1 over ip) board and so it cannot be used as a replacement for map-d. tn801 map-d has reached its end-of-life this september so it's no longer manufactured but i think there may be some stock leftovers, try to call avaya. also try googling for refurbished board, i tried and it gave me a lot of links.
note that you have at least one other way to go, it's to upgrade your system to r12/r13 and use co-res dlg or aes instead of map-d board.

Thanks for the replies. I just read on another thread about the TN801B being discontinued. The company I work for just spent a bunch of money for custom call center software that was created to work with the TN801B MapD.

Dwalin, I'll looking to your suggestion about the upgrade to r12/r13 and the co-res dlg or aes. Although I'm sure that would mean redoing all of our call center software so it talked to it rather than the MapD. I did look on the internet for sources, and though the part number came up a lot, very few of those sources had them in stock. I'll keep looking though. So, for the future, I guess I need to get the CFO to approve buying several TN801B's to keep as backups, since I suspect they are only going to get harder to find and more expensive.

Thanks for the info. I'm still looking for a source to fix our bad TN801B if that is possible. I don't know what is wrong with it, maybe the harddrive, but it won't reboot. Probably Avaya is the only place that can be sent if they even do that type of work on them.

if you decide to get rid of map-d, you wouldn't need to rewrite your custom call center software. new software-only cti solutions from avaya support all dlg/cvlan applications just like map-d does. essentially, a map-d board is an industrial computer running unixware and cti software, namely dlg and/or cvlan. the platform changed from circuit pack to standalone server and unixware to linux but the cti software itself didn't change. so if you decide to upgrade to cm 3.0 and aes 3.0 you wouldn't lose anything. on the contrary, i'd recommend you to seriously consider such a move because aes platform is much more robust than map-d. its server can be duplicated, the link that connect the server to the switch also can be duplicated and encrypted.

Dwalin, that would be good if we didn't have to have new code added to our current call center software. I'll start doing some research on this. I've been talking with our local Avaya contact, who wants to come in and talk with us about other projects we have been talking about. I'm a bit leary about getting Avaya involved since their solutions seem to be so much more expensive than some of the 3rd party vendors... and once Avaya gets a hold of your switch, they don't want to let go. But I'm going to run this by the company we have doing our maintenance and see if they can come up with the details of upgrading to this and also run it by our software developer and see if he has installed his cti software on any Definity's that already have this. Even if we don't do this right away, we are planning on adding a 2nd Definity sometime next year at a backup/overflow location.

I upgraded a customer from duplicated G3siV11 with MAP-Ds to S8700 and converted to co-res DLG with no problem. The customer's IVR vendor said that he didn't need to make any changes on his end except to change the IP address. You may want to dedicate a CLAN to the co-res DLG application, but you don't have to do this.

You'll gain many other features if you go to S87XX and CM3.

You also don't have to deal directly with Avaya. There are many qualified Business Partners around the country that can help you with this transition.

Thanks Schned. I'm going to run this by the company that we have our maintenance agreement with and see if they give me a blank stare or know what I'm asking. <grin>

And again, thanks to everyone that commented and gave advice. Mike, one of the re-sellers you listed above did have a couple of TN801B's for a real good price (they are pulls but they said they have been tested)so we are going to pick up a couple of them so we have a spare to our spare... just in case. <grin>
