I have a VOIP phone in my remote location. I connect to my office using a hardware Sonicwall Firewall unit TZ 170. My incoming and outgoing calls work prefect. However, everytime my e-mail synchronizes, the outgong channel for my call is distorted. The incoming is unaffected.

What can I do to avoid this and to ensure that the voice packets get preference using QOS.

My existing settings for this connection is as follow:

Compression Mode: G.711 ULAW 64K
TDM->IP Gain: Default
IP-> TDM Gain: Default
Supplementary Services: None

Checked Boxes:
- Enable FAsstart for non-Avaya IP Phones
- Out Of Band DTMF

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Try using G.729 for he codec.
G.711 uses much more bandwidth.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

If you do not have a leased line you cannot use QoS. QoS does not work on public networks I am pretty sure.

Avaya, Panasonic, Polycom, APC, MCP, A+

but QOS would ensure the voice traffic gets in and out at a higher priority than his email traffic.
