Can anyone put me straight on whether it is 'safe' to use high (> char(127)) ascii characters in an email?
A bit of background...
We email clients in approx 100 countries worldwide. As policy, I advise users to initially use plain text until we know the recipient has a html client.
Our email content often contains electrical specifications and uses characters such as ± (plus-minus), °(degrees), µ (micro) and various currency symbols ($£€¥).
What governs the correct receipt of these characters within plain text and html email, and are there any steps I could take (apart from using more explicit representations eg. +/-, Deg C, etc) to ensure the recipient sees the correct character?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
