With XP Home Edition on new notebook, I was installing additional software, had a problem, went back to the check point that was created when I started the ntbk the first time. I did this two more times with no apparent problems. Then I noticed the following. My initial user folder, Tom, was duplicated 3 times as Tom.sssss, then as Tom.sssss.000 and Tom.sssss.001, where sssss is the system ID. I do not know in what sequence these folders were created. User Tom has Admin. capabilities. There is only one Tom user showing in the login screen. The problem is that Tom login is still pointing to the Tom.sssss.001 folder in the Documents and Settings folder, and subsequent installs are put in this folder. Everything works OK, but it is getting messy. Is there a way to get the profile to ponit to the Tom folder, and then move the other info from .sssss.001 to Tom? This is Home Edition of XP so the Computer Management function is very limited?

Thanks

This is a worthwhile install, to help in some situations, especially where there are profile problems. I bet most of the regulars here have it installed.
To download and install UPHClean, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Thanks Linney for your response. I guess that I must do the following to get a clean "Tom" account;

Create another Admin account.
Use this account to copy all the existing "Tom" folders data to a temp Hold folder.
Delete the old user account.
Create a new Tom account.
Log into the new Tom account, to get the new Tom Folder.
Copy the previous Tom data (in hold) to the new folder.
(i'll keep the hold stuff for a few weeks).

I would expect that some of the software previously installed with subfolders under Tom may not now work.

If you see any problems, I'ld appreciate a warning. Otherwise, thanks again.

Just post back if you hit any snags. Follow 811151 exactly and you should be right.
