Hi,

Is there a way to connect to a win2003 server using the incorrect UNC name?

For example:
REAL server name \\ServerA
I want to be able to connect to it using;
FAKE server name \\ServerX

I have an app that requires UNC mapping to a server and the problem is that we migrating to a new system and naming convention.

I have added ServerX to dns so when I ping it serverA responds, I have tried using the hosts file again this pings fine but won't connect via UNC.

Sorry if this is obvious but I am struggling with this now.

Many Thanks
Iain

P.s. Should this have been posted in the DNS forum?

Have you tried it in LMHOSTS? I think a UNC mapping would go over NetBIOS.

Thanks Nick for the post.
