So i bought a usb to ide cable and I cant get the drivers to work on my win98 machine, any ideas as to what is going on or how to get this neat gadget to work. The box for the item is a generic box and has wording saying the cable will work on both win 98 and win98se so i am not sure if it will work. Any help would be great.

Hello. Make sue the USB is 1.x or 2.x whatever you expect. I don't think USB 2.x works with WIN98x.

I have used a USB to IDE BOX WHERE YOU PUT THE hdd INSIDE THE BOX, AND THEY DO NOT NEED DRIVERS ABOVE me. )Sorry for the case change).

Also make sure yoiu have all the updates for 98x. You may not want to hear this, but ME is much better, and XP is suprese--but a major upgrade from 98x.

Hope this helps.

PS. What is your goal? If it is a HDD, the $20 boxes for the HDD work pretty well (usually have drivers too)...
