I have noticed that my USB devices tend to shut down after a while. I go to Device Manager > Power Management > "Allow the computer to turn off...", and I uncheck the setting, to let the USB devices remain on.
However when I reboot, the check mark is back! Is there any way to turn this setting off, and KEEP it turned off?

Log in as the Administrator (not as a user with administrative rights), then retry that unticking of the setting...

else see below, it may also apply to W7, it is for XP and W2k3...
Code:
To disable the Selective Suspend feature, follow these steps:

   1. Click Start, and then click Run.

Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, and then use the Start Search box.
   2. Type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor opens.
   3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB
   4. If the DisableSelectiveSuspend registry entry is present, double-click it. If it is not present, create the entry. To create the entry, follow these steps:
         1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
         2. Type DisableSelectiveSuspend, and then press ENTER.
         3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
   5. In the Value data field, type 1 to disable the Selective Suspend feature, and then click OK.

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

GrimR:
Those instructions are to keep the setting ON. I want to keep the setting OFF.

BBB:
That removed the "Power Setting" choice from Device Manager. Now, I don't know if my power settings are ON, or OFF.

Found it! The ability to turn the USB on (and keep it on), is in the "Advanced Power Settings. You have to "disable" the computer's ability to "enable" the setting to keep the USB on!!! I guess for a system where you have to access "Start" to turn it off, it makes sense to "disable" a setting to "enable" it!!!

Thanks for that feedback it is useful to know.
