We have a Genovation 631 numeric key pad, USB, connected to a Dell notebook, running Windows 98. The pad stopped working, user doesn't have software for it. We were wondering if this keypad uses a driver, not sure if problem is hardware or software related?

almost all hardware uses drivers especially USB software (although rarely they do have a plug in play 100%, but most devices still need some kind of drivers to operate properly) I would look on the manufactuer's website, I'm sure they have a driver download section, also have you tried to plug it into a different USB Port, or even a different machien for that matter(to see if it'll work either way)

Appreciate the feedback, actually found that the problem was due to the version of Windows 98, version 2, doesn't have as much support for USB as version 1. We downloaded an upgrade patch from microsoft, 240075up.exe, that fixed the problem.
