I have a customers computer that we replaced the hard drive and installed Win XP using their COA (so its legit) they are able to connect and IPOD and system detects it and works fine. The proble is that when they connect the digital camera and printer they won't install properly. I have the drivers so I know its not the drivers and I am using the same USB port that works with the IPOD it just seems to be certain USB hardware that doesn't work. Any help would be great. Thanks

I really need some help on this one please

I have had the same problem with pen drives with xp-pro.

You probably need to install the USB drivers for the motherboard. That comes from the manufacturer, and, in my case, was not on the Windows disk.

Here are some USB links have a look through them and see if they give you any clues.

General USB troubleshooting in Windows XP

AutoPlay intermittently does not detect removable media or digital cameras

314634 - Windows XP Does Not Detect Your New USB Device

USB device does not function after connecting device to a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer or to a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005-based computer

A USB 2.0 hub may stop working when you disconnect a USB 2.0 printer from your Windows XP-based computer

In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

What error message are you seeing, and are there any clues in the Event Viewer?

Make sure its not trying ot assing the usb to a drive letter lower than F(a-f). I think if it does it wont see it.

Follow what Linney wrote first, but also check on the Quote if that is your case; someone mentioned the USB Drivers from the Manufacturer do that first, as some usb chips do not work well with generic drivers...

# Many USB devices don't work well on hubs. Cameras, scanners and especially USB drives are known to have problems with hub connectivity.
# Remember that "active USB extensions" are really just one-port hubs.
