I have a toshiba MK1031GAS USB hard drive which works fine on other PC's/laptop's ive tried it in except one.

A HP pavilion zt1151. This only has USB1 and the drive is USB2 but my previous experiance tells me it should work but at usb1 speed.

In safely remove hardware it shows up.
Under device manager it shows up.
Under my computer its not there!
Under disk management its not there!

Its enable under device manager and as i said works fine on other machines.

Can someone help me to get the laptop to see the drive?

And the HP Pavilion's operating system is...?

The fact that the drive enclosure is USB2 should make no difference - it should still work satisfactorily through a USB1 port.

Exactly how and where does it show up under Device Manager?

Sometimes drives need to be allocated a drive letter in order to be useable and show up in Explorer. You say it doesn't show under Disk Management, so presumably all you have listed there is Disk 0 and CD-ROM 0. Is that correct? It's not lurking under the CD-ROM is it...?

Do you have any other USB peripherals that work with this particular laptop? Printer, camera, flash drive etc?

I have just purchased a HP Photosmart printer. MY previous dbase IV application reports printed thru LPT1 port. How do I change the settings to allow programs to find the USB port to print?

Sorry for late reply All systems are NTFS and the drive shows under the disk drive section on device manager.

Its not hidden by the cd drive that was the 1st thing i checked but thanks for the tip.
