Im sorry if this post gets a little lengthy, I'll try to keep it short and include all the details.
My USB 'key ring' portable hard disk is not working properly and I am struggling to recover the information on it.
It is a LEXAR media Jumpdrive 2.0 pro
It will not longer mount on a MAC OSX system at all and therefore I can not use the disk utility there.
On a PC it mounts so this I thought would be a good place to start.
Initially the disk can be opened from my computer displaying all the files. If you close the window and try to open it again you get an error message Please insert drive X: The disk is no longer accessable. And you need to disconnect and reconnect it to view the contents again.
you can on occasion copy a file off of the disk, but it needs to be small and you need to do it when you view the contents for the first time. After it has copied, you will subsequently get the same error message as above. Any larger files try to copy, however half way through you will get the same error message and the copy will terminate. When you click on a picture file the disk will crash when windows tries to brings up the preview in the window.
I have tried a data recovery program from DTIDATA.com. On scanning the disk. You get no read errors and in the files found window, the contents of the disk are displayed. When you click copy in the program to recover the files all sectors give read errors and the disk can no longer be accessed.
It seems that initially the drive is accessable, but if you try to perform any subsequent steps it is no longer accessible.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
It is frustrating to see all of the files and not be able to get them off the disk.
