USB ADSL modem

Hello,

I have a Linksys ADSL usb modem. The problem im having is
when ever i pick up my phone or hang it up the modem disconnects????? the set up is a spliter pluged into the
phone jack one line/filter goes to the phone the other line
without filter goes to the adsl modem.

Any suggestions would be great.
