Where can I find a USB 1.0 Driver that will work on a Compaq Presario 5108US? I reformatted the hard drive and loaded XP professional and other products. Now I need to transfer all the pictures back onto this computer using a DCC USB cable. It worked getting the pictures off the computer. But now the new formatted computer does not recognize the USB port. In the hardware manager it shows it with the yellow "?" This is all I need to have this finished. Thank you.

I have already tried that site. Does not offer anything on the USB driver. Thank you. Anywhere else you can think of?

Did you load a seperate driver for this computer? XP should recognize it's own USB by itself. Is the USB turned on in BIOS? In "Device Mangler", remove the "yellow" USB driver and restart, (leaving the cable unplugged) letting XP find it's native driver. (Have the XP CD handy) Check and see if you still get the "yellow" error. If OK, plug in the cable. You may have to install the driver for your USB reader, although XP usually recognizes most of them. XP recognizes a lot of hardware that you needed seperate drivers under Win 98.

None of this worked. This is the second computer I have had problems with. I just did a clean install on a Dell Dimension 4500 and the samething happended with it. It will not recognize the USB port. It to has a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. This is a USB 2.0. I tried using a USB 2.0 driver that I already have and it did not work. HELP. I have to get some file on both of these computers and using a USB DCC really helps. Thank you.

using a USB DCC
You mean Direct Cable Connection?
tell us more....

Go into control panel>add/remove programs> windows setup>Communications..click details....put a check in DCC..
you may be prompted for OS CD...(though this is primarily for parallel 25pin conn.)

Diconnect the cables and get the PC's USB Support working "first"
Enable it in BIOS as Micker377 said

You may need to set up P2P and/or ICS to utilize what I think you're trying to do...
With cables disconnected, you should get no yellow ? in device mangler.
Get it to this point first.

Did you install the Mobo Chipset drivers?(this is really necessary for the USB to work)

An alternative (and easier, faster) is to hook up HDD w/pics as Slave to the other, and tranfer that way.....(need more sys spec info)
and the drive w/pics has to have correct jumper settings when attached(located on back of drive)....if you're not confident in this procedure area, don't try it....we'll keep looking at alternatives.

If it worked before, it'll work again.....
You may need to reinstall, and only have Monitor, keyboard and mouse hooked up

Post all your USB info

Oh yeh;
Compaqs are a pain, and what's alot more important than the Model#'s (though good)is the System Info (build date, CPU mHz, mobo, Video, RAM, laptop/desktop).
I say this especially cause you say USB 1.0 and XP

Get the Dell up and purring first....IMO

Ok. I have looked at the Dell and here is what I have. I went into the BIOS and the USB is enabled. I went to the Device Manager and here is what I have.

Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller -24CD
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller -24C2
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

Everything shows working properly. What I do not have is a USB driver showing in the "other devices." It was there once with a yellow exclamation, now it is gone. I do have two other yellow exclamation in "Other Devices" they are Mulitmedia Audio Controller (self explantory), SM bus controller (do not know what this is). Could it be intefering with me getting the USB working? Thank you.

I'm almost 100% positive that you need ONLY ONE of each
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller
USB Root Hub
Remove all others and the other Devices instances should get their resources/IRQ's back

Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller -24CD
is probably the XP default...
I forget if your USB is an expansion Card?? or is it native to mobo
It's important to know if the Hardware on Dell is capable of USB 2.0...(don't know when Dimension first came out)
