Trying to determine if client should keep this Pilot 5000 or move to a newer palm. Is there anything I should know about this unit? Does it work with Windows 98 and 2000? Please give me some advice on how to make the decision.

Thank you,

Dawn

It should work ok with Palm Desktop.
My wife still has the US Robotics Palm Pilot Pro. Works fine. (she doesn't want a new one)
The 5000 should still be able to run a lot of the software out there.
Problems start when you want to use newer software that require newer Palm OS.
Or, you want to sync with another user with IR ( there's no IR on older models).
Or, if you want to install a large application. (most apps are large to older models).

Bottom line: If you want me to tell you to get rid of it because it's junk. I can't do it.

On the other hand you can get a 8 meg model - new or refurbed for around $100.00.
I know Handspring has the Visor Deluxe model on sale as a refurb for $99.00.
I heard that you can get a Handspring Neo at Wal-Mart for about $88.00.

Spend the money! You'll be happier in the long run.

HTH!

Dawn,

That's how I started. I bought a used Palm Pilot Pro to see if I would even use it.
I used it a lot. Until I realized my limitations ( as discribed above ). And then I bought a Handspring Visor Deluxe on ebay. I love it!

I gave the Palm Pilot Pro to my wife and she uses the calendar for all the kids Homeschool schedules. She doesn't do much else with it yet, but it's a start.

So your an instructor. Do you teach Palms?

BTW; I lied. The price at Wal-Mart was only $80.00 and I just found out, they're closing out on selling Palm/Handspring stuff (at least around here). So they may not have any more.

Hi there,

Yes I am a software trainer. I don't necessarily teach palms, but I guess I could. I know the Palm well enough but haven't had a request.

I am in the SF Bay area, in CA, where are you?

Dawn

Well, I work in Minnesota (twin cities)
But I live in Wisconsin (the Dairy State)
I'm a Network Administrator.
I guess I've had my Palm's for about 3.5 years or so.
