I need to rectify this problem quite urgently so any help greatly appreciated:

I have a weserver and an extranet server both win2k servers. They are both on the same IP subnet. The extranet server is part of a domain but the internet server is in its own workgroup. I am running GFI network monitor on the extranet server (which is a part of the domain), however i need the GFI software to be able to remotely stop services on the internet server (which is in its own workgroup). I am using a win resource kit util called sc.exe to stop services remotely, but i get an access denied error when trying to stop the service on the internet server from the extranet server. Anyone know what i should do?

Probably becuase of security.

Two things you can try...

First thing
1) create a user account on the workgroup server that matches that account that you use on the extranet server. These accounts must be identical same user name and same password.

2) make this new user a member of the local admins group

3) log into the Extranet server (with this account) and try to use the sc command.

Second thing:

1) before you use the SC command. Map a drive to the webserver. Now try to the SC command.

-hope this helps.
