Upload file to a file server instead of web server?

Hello.

has any one ever tried uploading file using CFFILE to a separate FILE server instead of WEB server? What are the potential problems?bugs?

background: we are upgrading to CF 7 and since clients will be uploading their file through out a year, we might run out of space on web server and decided to have a separate file server for storing.
