I am attemping to upgrade windows me to windows 2000 because I do not want todo a clean install.

When I attempt to upgrade I am getting this error message.

"The option to upgrade will not be available at this time because setup was unable to load c:\windows\upgdlls\w95upg.dll\win9xupg\w95upg.dll

The system cannot find the specified file"

I know there is a way around this but I am not quite sure what it is. Any ideas?

ME was released after 2k - so there is no official upgrade path - though I've seen posts where people say they've managed to do it - so try searching this site and Googling.

Personally, I think this is madness. If you want 2k to work reliably on the machine, back up and do a clean install. If you do manage to force an upgrade, almost guaranteed problems (which you also get with 'proper' upgrade from 98 to 2k)

If you really want to do any upgrade why not upgrade to windows xp? XP will allow you to update from Windows ME without having to do anything out of the ordinary.

I would also recommend XP over windows 2000 but that just my personal feeling, I like XP better than 2000 plus it has a few improvments over windows 2000. But they are more or less the same OS with mostly cosmeticall changes.
