Upon upgrading from Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP6A to Windows 2000 Professional, during the initial setup procedures, when I get to the Windows 2000 Compatibility wizard it detects "existing software that has not yet been completely installed, please log off and log back on for installation to complete". And I can't continue with the WIN2K upgrade until I figure out what software is incompatible. Its not clear as to what it is and I've checked WINNT32 for clues but I haven't been lucky yet. I've read on microsoft's site that you can use the Dosnet.inf file to get around incompatibilities in the setup but the instructions are not real clear to me on how to do this plus its only found on the installation CD so how am I supposed to edit the file, sure I know I can copy and paste the file somewhere else but what are the steps. I need exact steps if anyone can help. Thanks.

I have had the same problem a couple of times. It has, for me, been an Internet Explorer problem. Usually if the NT box had IE 4 installed.

I usually ghost the machine, to backup data and if the upgrade does not work the first time - I just format and do a fresh install.

Same holds true for XP Pro.I have talked with quite a few folks that were not able to upgrade from 2000 without some problems.

Be of good cheer,
Jeff Black
