*We are upgrading to a MAP40 platform and changing
the platform ....

*Current settings in Audix are Switch Interface Admin>
Call Data Interface admin >DCIU

*New platform is C-Lan.........
...all the docs say to remove C-lan Switch Interface
(remove software) and install DCIU ,to move MO Optical drive that is in the "New" and install into "Old" Audix backup ....reinstall into "New" and do a restore ...
the old Audix has the tape drive not MO Optical drive
that is in the "New" platform ...

*We do have Avaya lined up to give us assistance with
upgrade but curious if anyone out there has done this

*Docs say your old and new Audix must have the same
Switch Interface Admin or the restore will not work..

Pabell:)

Thanks ...

We had our MAP40 upgraded to R5 Intuity Audix last summer. Does your new MAP40 have a DCIU interface card installed? If not, you're going to need one. Will the one you currently have in your pld box work? Don't know. We had Avaya do the onsite upgrade. I'm an old retired AT&T/Lucent/Avaya switch installer and I've upgraded enough of those things to know that many things can go wrong. I didn't want to be stuck holding the bag if anything went down the drain. That said... The Avaya tech removed the optical drive from the new MAP40, installed it temporarily in the old MAP40 and backed up the old machine to optical media. He then replaced the optical drive in the new machine and did a restore. Everything ported over. The only changes we made after the upgrade were to have Avaya turn on the green feature to have the ISDN in the switch pass ANI to the Intuity. After Avaya left I set the Intuity up on our lan for Message Manager. All went well.

I should have mentioned that you need to install the upgrade utility software on your old system. There is more to this than just doing a backup and restore, there is an upgrade procedure you must go thru. Check out the Avaya upgrade docs at if you haven't already done so.

pabell,

You need to remove all the DCIU translations and software package before running a make-image for the upgrade. The new platform is probably set for IP from the factiry and if it sees DCIU info on the restore process it'll corrupt the upgrade.

We do all our own PBX installs and upgrades (only paying Avaya T&M to stand by with a crash kit (spares) and to perform the certification afterwards. But we have Avaya do all the Intuities because so much can (and has) gone wrong. Seven of ten Intuity upgrades went south because of bad software or hardware straigh from the factory. It was painful, but we got throught it.

WARNING! If you're planning to upgrade to Intuity 5.1 (and I recommend it), you could get screwed out of all the spare disk space if you're not carefull. RTU is based on mailboxes not disk space in the R5.1 platforms. The Avaya upgrade process does not take into account the RTU disk space, only in-use mailboxes. After the upgrade you could be forced to BUY additional mailboxes immediately. The solution: Prior to having Avaya configure your upgrade you should build "dummy" mailboxes (switch 0) to account for paid for growth. You should shot for 2100 in a MAP5, 3000 in a MAP40, and upwards of 6000 in a MAP100. It's a little work, but you'll save $25,000-80,000 depending on how much growth you want in your system.

Good luck, WHCARon

Ok, here ya go.....
I have done several of these and have had not one problem.
Basically you have to make the to boxes look alike. The old box is DCIU. The new box is LANSet. You have to take the LANSet out of the new box and put in DCIU. Then you power down both units and pull the MO drive out of the new and connect it into the old on the SCSI connector that is used for the old SCSI tape drive. Then you power up the old box and save to a 540 MB optical disc (no others will work for some reason). Then power down the old box, put the MO drive back in. Power up and restore. Then pop the new Audix Software CD in (not the Languages CD) and remove the DCIU and put in the LANSet. You can now have Avaya dial into the new box and turn on DefinityLAN for you. Migration done. I know I've missed a few steps and I have painted a very big picture, but it is very easy to do. It's just waiting on the backup and restore that take so long.

We had an issue with the Sandwich boards TN2400,TN2401
the C-lan links would not come up ....checked all the programming ...test boards showing issue with Packet-Interface problems...so we removed the DCIU board from the old Intuity and reistalled into the NEW Intuity leaving
the DCIU intergration ....(actually installed removed the CLAN then put back DCIU removed the links for CLAN added back Link 1 (data module , communication processor interface
and so on )all said and done when were able to upgrade from Release 6 to Rlease 11 ,installed a CAS system and finally get the Audix back on-line ....we will be installing the New Sandwhich boards and getting the Clan back on line

Thank you for all the posts they were most helpfull...
