Upgrading to 2003

To all of you guys who have upgraded to 2003. When upgrading to 2003, do you recommend a full install "Format the drive.", or do you reccommend just an upgrade. I have a co-worker who say's "upgrades can cause problems and we should format the drive and do a full install" I say upgrade, and take care of any problems!!!
