Hi people,
My boss wants me to upgrade SQL Server 7 to SQL 2000 on one of our domain controllers. I have read all the white papers out there and i'm pretty confident on what steps to take to complete the install (considering that i've never used SQL server before!).

However, those white papers never tell the whole story. Are there any loopholes to look out for when doing this upgrade? The server getting the upgrade runs Windows 2000 Server with the latest service pack.

Any, I repeat ANY tips will be appreciated.

THANKS in advance

Rick

We are going through a similar project where i work. We have two SQL 7 servers that are going to be upgraded to SQL 2000. But, we are not really doing an "upgrade". We are going to Uninstall SQL 7 from the servers and then Install SQL 2000. Then, convert the database from a backup to SQL 2000. It is my understanding that this is the prefered method for "upgrading" to SQL 2000. The database conversion is going to take a while because of the amount of data. But, i have always prefered doing fresh install of things instead of upgrading. That is just my opinion though.

Might be something for you too look into and may cause less headaches.

blubomber,
thanks for the response. that is definitely something i will keep in mind before i make any decisions. Is converting the database from 7 to 2000 problematic?

thanks again!!
