I am currently in the process of upgrading from CPII to CPIV going from RLS 3.0 to 6.0. I am also upgrading the Signaling Server to an IBM COTS server from a ISP1100. Is there anything I should know about the compatibility of the VGMC card, or is there an upgrade required of it. I've been through the Nortel website and post here to no avail. I hope someone out there can help!

Thanx ahead of time!

I believe you should be fine, your VGMC will continue to be your DSP resource.

It's only dialtone-VZ

Thanx vztech, but does the VGMC loadware, or firmware need to be upgraded?

Probably yes especially if you have not upgraded it since loading 3.0.

Remember, the upgrade is done via the signaling server, so make sure you have the current VGMC loadware on the signaling server before powering your VGMCs up on the upgraded platform.

The VGMCs will attempt to register to your VoIP node, and then the new software will be sent to them by the signaling server.

Where would I get the loadware, on the Nortel website? I've checked the patch library for loadware/firmware. There is nothing for VGMC.
Is this something I do through the new signaling server once it is upgraded?

If you install the "Sigserversoftware", you also install the fimware for MC32 / and MC32S /and MGC. After you have import the Nodefile via Elementmanager, you must upgrade the MC32 or MC32S-Loadware over the Element Manager.

You can use your VGMC cards as the DSP resource.

You will need to udpate the base f/w on the VGMC card 1st. This can be downloaded from the Nortel website, follow this link to the VGMC part of the Nortel site.
Make sure the VGMC is up and can ping the CS1K before trying the update otherwise you will not be able to update the f/w. You need to know the PDT2 password to be able to login to vxshell. If you don't know it, please don't ask. Once you have logged into vxshell, follow the upgrade bulletin that is available from the link above.

You will need to updated the loadware on the VGMC card too. This is part of the Rls 6.0 software on the Sig Server. Make sure you download the lastest IPL software from the Nortel website too.

It's approx 10mins to do the f/w and 10mins to do the loadware (assuming no problems)

Good luck!

Thanx Dr. I do know the PDT2, I just don't know how to get to where I input from the <IPL prompt

Your welcome!

For how to access vxsheel see below (there is a copy of my upgrade process).

I don't know your skill level but I would caution you to BE VERY CAREFUL AT THIS LEVEL, I have broke a card or two by using the wrong commands.

If you download the files from the link it explains how to access the IPL vxshell and the instructions for the upgrade.

In the upgrade string it states use the username & password. This is not very clear, I used the admin2 username and password and this worked. I did the upgrade using a compact flash card inserted into the faceplate.

For everyone that needs it, below is a copy of the successful upgrade...

IPL> vxshell
login: PDT2 user

I rebooted the VGMC card and then upgraded loadware using Element Manager.

Good luck!
