Did it from gw5.5 to 6 a few weeks ago. Found most of the little problems that are a pain rather than stop the upgrade. First few tips.
1. Obvious but needs to be mentioned, FULL BACKUP OF DOMAIN AND POSTOFFICE.
2. Create SDD on server. ( I created a new one rather than overwrote existing)
3. Copy relevant .dc files into doman and postoffice directories BEFORE you start to upgrade.
4. The process of installing, running new agents will upgrade the domain and postoffice.( After the agent has run wait for a few minutes before checking version in console1, it can take a while)
5. If for some reson either domain or postoffice hasn't converted, check versions of .dc files then do a rebuild from console1. This sorted all my conversion problems out.
6. I had loads of abend problems with the GWIA. It eventually came down to using the original gw6 gwia, NO PATCH, but everytime a change is made in console1 to the gateway when the gwia reads it and restarts it abends the server. But works fine after reboot. With the patch it abended the server immediately.
7. Webaccess really needs to be put in its own domain with its own MTA. The server you run Webaccess gateway on, put a domain on it with the MTA. I had loads of communication problems but once created its own domain worked like a dream.
8. Use IP for all links.
Feel free to email me if you think you need anymore.
Good luck
