Hello All,

I am having the dickens of a time trying to upgrade my imac 500mHz from the existing OS 9.1 to OS 9.2.1 and eventually to OS 9.2.2. I have no problem finding sites with the 82MB download. My dial up modem is way slow for the download. I usually get dumped by my server before the 5hr download completes. So I tried to download the file at work on the PC with broadband so the download completed in a few minutes. However when I then copied the file to CD and tried to open it at home on my Mac no such luck. error messages. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bucky

What is the name of the file that you downloaded?

Does this name appear the same on the CD when read in the Mac?

Is your Mac updated to the latest version of Stuffit Expander to extract the downloaded update?

Did you copy the file from the CD to your desktop? ...or are yuo trying to run straight from the CD?

Answers to your questions:

Name of file is ac_os_9.2.1_update.smi.bin
Name appears same on CD as on file downloaded
Have not updated Stuffit Expander in a while.
Stuffit Expander successfully extracted the file after I dragged the file from the CD to the desktop. When I tried to run the extracted file I got error messages, I got $sum conflicts. I got a looping error message that I had to cold boot the Mac to get out of. Thanks for your help in this. I am really anxious to upgrade because 9.1 needs a lot of help that I am assuming will be there in 9.2

Stuffit Expander can extract portions of an incomplete archive and still make you think it was successful. Update Stuffit Expander first to see if that was the problem. If it wasn't, you should re-download the 9.2 update.

If there is an option, select the HQX download from apple.com, not the BIN download. HQX is a more sturdy archive format for transferring between Windows and Mac.
