Hello,

I currently have an nt-4.o domain controller. I am planning on upgrading this to a 2000 server domain. Now what i want to know is how should i go about doing this. Should i just insert the 2k cd and try to upgrade the PDC to 2000 server or should i do some promoting and demoting of servers. I was thinking of building a w2k server from scratch then promoting that to PDC then demoting the old NT.40 pc to just a memberserver, then upgrade the old machine to a 2k server and then make it the domain controller on 2k. Let me know what you guys think would be best.

Thanks,
Eddie

Check out Technet.
If you build a new 2K box, you can have it be a Domain Controller, you can not however demote an NT server (be it a BDC or PDC) to a member server without reinstalling NT.

Hope this helps,
