I find one of our computers is a pentium-pro 400Mhz.
If we have to upgrade it, can we u/g to celeron 800/900
(if the mobo supports) and would it be better off with
celeron 800? It has one of those slot and cpu card in
it.

Best way for us to help us out is find out who makes your motherboard, and what the model number is (it's often printed on the motherboard itself).

If the motherboard supports faster processors, then yes, a Celeron 800 will be better than a Pentium Pro 400.

The first thing I knew was that the logo was an
Intel mobo. Of course the standard procedure
would be opening the case and look at the make
and model of the mobo. Just want to know if
the slot for p-pro is the same slot for celeron
first, before I would even care to open the case.

The pin-outs for the celeron processors and pentium pro processors are different, so whatever the case, you can't just pop a celeron chip in. However, you might be able to get a card to put the celeron chip in that will fit onto the motherboard's slot.

So the best way to find out if you can upgrade is to determine what motherboard you have.

If you look on the processor socket it will have an ID such as SOCKET-7 or 478pin P4 socket . when you have the socket type you will have to buy a processor for that type of socket for it to fit, also make sure the MB supports an upgrade

Pentium pro 400Mhz?

TTBOMK the fastest was 200!

There were/are some Evergreen processor upgrades, which go to 333Mhz.

If you have a socket/slot converter, as your post suggests, find out what it is and what type/speed of processor it supports. Or post details here - I'm sure someone will know!

I hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk
