We need to do an in place upgrade of our Windows 2000 AD to 2003 AD. I have not been able to find a definitive document that outlines the steps involved in performing the upgrade. Can anyone give me some guidance or point me to documentation somewhere that explains how to do this?

Thanks,

Steve

Our copy of Windows 2003 Server came with some documentation on the CD that tells you how to do this. It also has a utility on the disk that does some preliminary modification to the existing AD files, but I'm not sure exactly what it does. Good Luck.

Using an account with Schema Admin Privileges,on the DC with the schema master fsmo role, etc... Run adprep /forestprep. Then run adprep /domainprep.

When you try to run it, it will prompt you of anything that needs to be done before upgrading.

then upgrade the OS and it'll do it's thing. The trick is adprep and upgrading first the DC holding the schema role ( it might also need to have some of the other fsmo roles on it, too, I don't remember offhand.
