I'm curious if an upgrade is available for going from XP Home Edition to Professional (besides just purchasing the $200 Pro upgrade).

You can always find it cheaper than the suggested retail price. I briefly searched under software and found the full version of XP Pro for $124 before shipping. If you buy hardware, you could save an extra $5 or more and go with an OEM version.
