I need to save xl2000 worksheet to .DBF and then append to another ".dbf" file. A client of mine [on travel] is sending me records in xl2000.
Have found that CLIPPER cannot read the file several attempts have resulted in two distinct problems:
[1] Some sort of ".DBT" corruption occurs. How's that, when I simply selected "save as " to ".DBF (III)" format??
[2] Cannot append to an existing ".dbf" file. (Records did not translate correctly ... only got one item with "N1" in the saved file.)
[3] After the save, closing the xl window, the ".DBF" could not be opened 'cause it was stuck in "shared mode." I had to reboot the PC to release that flag.
Tried everything I could think of ... even by linking with ACCESS2000 and cut/paste. The only way I could do it was to go backwards and use ACCESS97, link to the target ".dbf", import the worksheet "saved as" xl95/97, and then cut/paste.
Compatibility of xl2000 appears to be a very serious problem for simple transfers of records.
Errggg, Sandy
