Is it possible to upgrade a Windows 2000 Advanced Server to Windows 2003 Standard Server ? either if it were a Domain Controller or just a domain member?
Yep, its a clean install if you want to use 2003 std on that box.
I should imagine you would be OK just deleting and recreating the boot/system partition during the text based install and leaving the other drives/partitions alone, the data should still be on those when the 2003 std is installed. I've done that when re-installing the same OS back onto a server, IE I mean I've re-installed 2000 server back onto a server that had 2000 on it before. You may have to setup shares and permissions again. Obviously still back up everything first.

You will need to wipe the system volume (the format option during the install should be enough).
You will need to setup the shares and permissions again.
Share info is stored in the registry. Local group info will have different SIDs. Domain group and user based security should be fine as soon as you join back to the domain.
