Somebody I know just called and said his client wants him to upgrade 6 servers which are running a mixture of:

Win95
Win NT
Novell

Can all these servers be upgraded to Windows 2000 Server?

Make sure what server they have, because Win95 is not a server , and NT 4.0 depends if it is a Workstation or Server (check it). If win NT is a 4.0 Server version then it can be upgraded to win2000 server , all the others, must be clean installed, not upgraded. Novell is not upgradable to Microsoft Products.
IF your planning to upgrade the workstations OS's(using windows 95) the you need to clean install windows 2000 professional (not the server ). A+, MCP, CCNA

What if the infrastructure is a mixed Windows/Novell one? I'm waiting for my friend to get back in touch with me as the contract description was very vague. My guess is that it is a mixed environment and they want to go strictly to W2K? I just read a doc on MS site entitled "Netware to Windows 2000 Server migration planning" which tells me something is possible.

Question is, what data is on those novell servers? what role do they play, etc....yuck

You can migrate , yes, but not upgrade NoVell to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. A+, MCP, CCNA

koquito is correct. Win95 is not a server, it's an Operating unit. Are you sure your friend didn't have W95 and NT desktop running on a Novell server? This would make more sense. Let us know what you here. Glen A. Johnson
