Upgrade Norstar MICS to 7.1 1

This was my 1st time posting to this website... I think I ended up replying to my own question before regarding the upgrade...
If I have a backup of 6.0, can I install the new 7.1 software and do a retore from my 6.0 without usin a upgrade kit?
