Ladies/gentlemen,

I just did a new install on a CS1000E to rls 5.0 following procedures on document NN43041-310. I comes up ok as a TDM. I received a cd from Nortel with the downloaded signaling server software rls v5.00.31b which I transfered, per procedures, into a 1 gig compact flash drive. I have a hard-drive installed in the CP PM card with S-5 set to pos 2.

After I install the software following procedure 43 on page 192 of NN43041-310, provide the IP network information and reboot as requested, the terminal displays a logon promp to OAM, not to the switch itself as I had hoped it would. I can log into OAM, but I want to log into the switch itself to check if the intall went ok per the messages display prior to the reboot.
Have I missed a step somewhere in the procedures that prevents me from rebooting to the pbx? Are there any other documents that I should be aware of that would lead me in the right direction? Any assistance from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Take care everyone.

Thanks for the response bigindian65. I entered cslogin and the response was: connect:S_errno_EHostDown. The CP PC led flashes green and the MGC led displays E002. Before I installed the SES software, the MGC had registered.

If you want to login in the Switch directly, you need to connect the tty cable at the back of IPMG, corespond to the slot where your CPPM seated. Setup your Procom Plus or any communication software to 9600 bps.

Thanks Villareal, but that's exactly where my TTY is connected to. Prior to installing the SES software, I was able to log in ok but after the SES install, the problem with not accessing the switch via the cslogin command still persists.

Are you trying to access CPPM SS or the CPPM CS? If Signaling Server, you need to use the CSLogin..

Villareal

If you have 5.0

You have 1 CPPM card for the CallServer
You have 1 CPPM card for the Signaling server
You Have 1 MGC with Dsp daugther boards.

Do you have 2 serperate CPPM cards? From your original post it sounds like you have 1 cppm card, CO-Res installs are not supported on 5.0 only on succession 6.

that is why i'm assuming you have the 1 cppm..... sorry if that is not the case.

Thanks Villareal and Triton for your responses.
Villareal: I am trying to access the PBX using the CSLogin command but the reply that I am getting is: connect:S_errno_EHostDown. I tried other TTY ports and have the same results. From what Triton commented, I might be wasting my time.

Triton: No appologies necessary ... I am just glad you responded. To answer your question, I have only one CPPM card with a fixed hard-drive (FMD)mounted on it to install the Signaling Server, and only one MGC with daughterboards. I don't have a second CPPM card for the Signaling Server as it is my understanding that the Signaling Server software can be intalled in the hard-drive mounted on the CPPM that I have per NN43041-310. Of course, these documents do not tell the whole story. Can you point out where I can find information on this so I can use it to justify purchasing an upgrade? I do not doubt your response in any way, it's just that when it comes to spending money, I can use all the justification I can get.

I had not had the opportunity to attend classses on the CS1000's, only on the M-1's so I gather from your response that I won't be able to continue. Thanks againg guys.

Vxworks can only run one or the other, succession 6 uses Linux thus allowing the Callserver and Signaling Server to co-exist on the same card (they are applications, and linux is the operating system).

S-5 allows you to boot from either the HDD or the Compact Flash depending on the setting, compact flash for Call server, and HDD for Signaling server.

I don't have the docs at my finger tips right now, but normally it would be in the Engineering guidelines or planning guide.

I will post it tomorrow time permitting.

You have an option of using an ISP1100 (no longer available new and not supported if you upgrade to succession 6) or a COTS server for the signaling server part or stick with another CPPM card (2 CPPM cards are a cleaner install, cots requires space on a rack as well as ISP1100).

If you are planning to use IP sets, you will need both.
I have not tried running just the Callserver by itself but you would be limited to TDM only (if it works), and only 1 cabinet... so it would be kinda pointless.....

Thanks for the feedback Triton. Looks like I will need to get an additional CP PM card. The tech manuals are not very clear which is why this site is very helpfull. If you are ever around San Antonio, I'll buy you lunch. Take care.

Triton, I wanted to give you an update. I finally received a new CP PM card. I installed the hard-drive and the Signaling Server software. After adding all the IP information, it came up ok. I was able to log into Element Manager and finish the rest of the install.
The only problem I had was a defective 96 port daughter board that kept an IP station from opening a voice path to a non-IP station. When the ringing non- IP station answered an incoming call, it immediately hung up giving me an ERR008. The same thing happened the other way around. I replaced the daughter board and things are good.

The input we receive from those who respond to our technical questions is invaluable. Your feedback is often the answer to a problem or a pointer to a solution. Take care.
