forgive me for being ignorant, but I am a new CCNA and this is my first IOS upgrade!

I have copied my new IOS image into flash: on my router (so I have my current IOS and my new IOS both in flash). How do I tell my router to use the new image instead of the old when I reload it?

tx.

A lot of times it is just "boot system flash:<imagename> , write memory . Do a show boot or a show bootvar to see if there is a specific boot statement . some models do not need a boot statement but seeing you have 2 images in flash I would think you have to specifiy which one you want booted , haven't dealt with a 2800 series .

thanks, I knew it was something simple.

Is there a way to delete a specific file out of flash: (i.e. the old image file) once I reload the router & know the new image is working? Or can I only erase the entire flash memory?

thanks again.

Hello there, you can remove a single file/image from flash too... Just to a sh flash identify the image you need to remove. Next:

router# delete fash:<image name> pls not no space between flash:and the image name.
router#squeeze ( this command will remove any images/files marked for deletation - in the previous step.

This workaround only applies to Clas A Flash file system.

Cheers and good luck
