I am trying to upgrade a laptop from Windows 98 SE to Windows 2000 Pro. The laptop contains lots of apps that we can't find the CD's for so I cannot wipe the computer and start from scratch.
However, when I start the upgrade process from the CD, it gets so far and crashes with a kernal error at the point when it has just about completed the upgrade compatibility check.
Much as I can appreciate the usefulness of the upgrade compatibility check, is it possible to forge ahead with the upgrade without performing this check? It is both time consuming and crashes the laptop and is preventing me upgrading the machine.
If anyone has any ideas or a way around my problem then I would be grateful.
