Is it possible to export out the settings/prefs from the 200 and import them to my new 2040? I'm hoping to save re entering the access rules and such.

I have put off the migration, because i had other pressing tasks to take care of. If there is a way to import in the settings from my old Pro 200 to my new 2040 that would make life a little easier.

I have been told by sonic wall that it is not an option, that i will have to rekey everything.

Yea unfortunately Twisst you can't export rules form one OS to another each of the codes are different. However here are some tips.

1.) backup your firmware and setting (System>Setting)

2.) download the current Firmware to a File Server (in case the migration from 200 to 2040 doesn't work you can load the original OS back)

3.) Make Screen Shots (Alt - Print Screen) of your FireWall RuleBase, Nat Policies, Network Interface settings, Routing Table, etc. then paste to Word or PowerPoint and leave notes on each one.

4.) Clean House - Preview the screenshots and remove any unused Rules, configurations, etc.

5.) Match the screen shots with your current network documents to add or delete any differences.

6.) Sit with the managers of each department or supervisors to go over productivity users, security issues, and ease of use issues.

7.) From that meeting plan who to customize the Firewall to meet their needs and concerns.

8.) Plan non productive hours (down time) a couple of hours a day to implement and test slowly any firewall configurations one by one on the new firewall.

9.) Take a vacation.

This is a better approach then transferring mess from one router to another. Now you have an opportunity to Clean and reorganize your "house". like those design shows on TV.

Good Luck

Thanks Roger,

A good plan always makes the task go easier. I am thinking about skipping right to number 9 and go on vacation!
