Our datacenter has been asked to support an application running Oracle 10g rac. After talking with our Veritas reps it appears that I will need to upgrade to NBU Ent 5.0 SP1. I'd be most interested to hear how others have made out with this upgrade. The first Server to be upgraded will be our MoM which is runnning GDM, NBAR and Vault on a Sun V880 (Solaris 8). By the time the upgrade takes place I imagine BMR will be congigured on this machine as well. Our tape backup libraries is an ADIC Scalar 1000, soon to be joined with an ADIC i2k, and an EMC Clariion as a DSU (future DSSU).

We have been running with minimal issues less a fix to Exchange 5.5 bricklevel backups in FP3 and 5 (yes, there is a binary fix to patch FP6).

Suggestions and recommendations on how to proceed are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I just upgraded a Solaris Master with Vault and NBAR with no issues. I also upgraded 7 media servers without issues. The only thing to be aware of is to upgrade your 4.5 license keys to 5.0 to utilize the new features.

In the upgrade process from 4.5 to 5.0, do you retain all your policies or is this something you have to go back and re-do once you have upgraded?

You will have to do a pkgrm of the VRTSnetbp package which is netbackup. During this process it will ask you if you are doing this due to an upgrade, answer yes to this. Once the removal is done, then install the new version. All policies, Storage Devices, and config will be in tact.

Remember to do a catalog backup prior to doing this.

Also, make a copy of your vm.conf and bp.conf files to another directory and put them back once the new install is complete.

I meant to say I am using Windows Server 2003. I have a Master Server and 4 media servers. When I upgrade I know i have to do the master server first but is there anything i need to be aware of. I want to make sure I dont have to recreate any policies/jobs if i dont have to. Is it just an upgrade that keeps the previous settings? I was going to do NBU 5.0 but I think I will wait till my NBU 5.1 CD gets in. I am using NBU 4.5 MP5 now.
