i was wondering if this was the ideal way of going about that. currently we have win2k with AD as our PDC and another win2k box with exchange 5.5. no replication or connection agreements anywhere. Should i setup the win2k box with exchange as a BDC with ADC and upgrade from 5.5 to 2000 on that box too? then set up a connection agreement to each other while having a two way trust with the PDC and BDC? basically i want to have a backup set up DC set up as well as upgrade from 5.5 with connection agreements and replication.

thanks

You really need to learn more about Active Directory, as there is no such thing as a BDC in AD. Proceeding without sufficient knowledge will only result in problems, and I don't see a way to answer your question without writing a book. Perhaps someone else wants to take a crack at this...

Personally I would not put Exchange and any DC on the same server. This might be OK if you are running a small network. But he is right you need to read up on AD or talk to someone else who has dealt with this type of issue.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.
