Hi,

I am trying to fix a machine for a friend. They upgraded from win95 to win98 using an win98 upgrade. I am not sure if they had FAT16 or FAT32 on their machine before installing the upgrade. They have 64 RAM and it is a Petium III 450. I worked fine with windows95. Now it starts to load windows98 and it freezes just before it should load the start bar and all the icons. All they get is a blue screen with the hour glass which moves when I move the mouse. The same is true in safe mode other than "safe mode" is written in each corner. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Petersen

Do they need data on machine? If not, I'd try a clean install of win98 (ie, onto reformatted hard drive). If they do, can you do a parallel install of win98 (ie, into a folder other than Windows)?

PS. One thought - have you looked at autoexec.bat and config.sys just to see if anything is being loaded there that might cause the problem - just REM any suspicious lines out.

If it has a network card (nic) pull it and see if it boots, or see if it starts in safe-mode. "More Than Merely Names"
YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

Thankyou Wolluf it was the autoexec.bat causing my problems.
