on RH servers what is needed to apply any needed patches required for the DST change coming up.

what patches are needed?

Do we need a support contract with RH on each server?

thanks

This link does not talk about Red Hat Linux 8.0. Any links for this version?

If memory serves, RH ver. 8 was a bust. Nobody liked it. In fact they never even bothered to go to 8.1. They dumped it altogether and went straight to 9.0. They went totally Enterprise after that and left the free product to fedora. If you would like the latest RHEL version but don't have the bucks, you might want to look into CentOS. It is RHEL with all the branding and graphics removed. It also is not supported by Red Hat itself but the folks at CentOS try to keep you very up to date on any updates that Red Hat has.

RhythmAce,

We have a couple of devices that use RedHat Linux 8.0. No problems at all. My post was basically asking about the DST patch not an opinion on how 8.0 is a bust and we should go to 9.0.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to get you to switch over to the dark side. You asked if you can apply a patch to version 8.0. The patch that Red Hat has is for the later versions of their enterprise versions. Even at that, those guys need to upgrade to the latest version of glibc. My point was that Red Hat doesn't support ver. 8 any more or any free version for that matter.

I was just thinking that if you want to only upgrade what is needed for the patch, you might want to update with yum. It will make sure all dependencies are upgraded too. You may be able to locate a patch at

I found the update for Red Hat version 8.0. A vendor emailed me a zipped file and instructions.

If anyone is interested I would have to send it via email.

Actually I mispoke. It wasn't an update. It was a manual process. I copied the following files to /root/home\ustimezones

CST6CDT EST EST5EDT MST MST7MDT PST8PDT

and then ran the command:

cp EST5EDT /usr/share/zoneinfo

Sorry, I should have been more specific how I got the dst up to date.
