I need to use Excel to keep a running tally based on slides being viewed in a PowerPoint presentation. I need to know how to automatically pass a "1" to a specific cell in Excel when a slide loads in PowerPoint. I already figured out how to display the spreadsheet in the presentation, now I just need to automatically update it as the presentation progresses.

Any help would be great.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but when you insert an object and create from file, there is a check box to link the file. So if it is an excel spreadsheet, when you update the spreadsheet it will update the spreadsheet object in the slide. Is this what you are talking about?

I guess you are talking about passing information back from Powerpoint to Excel. If thats the case, I am not sure that that is possible.

Thanks for the replies.

What I need to do is create a scoring total for a PowerPoint based quiz. The quiz will be used at trade shows to help customers learn about our company. I have used a series of links within the slide show to act as answers. When the customer selects the correct answer, they are taken to another slide telling them that their choice was correct. When these slides are shown, I want to place a "1" in an Excel column that can be summed to provide a total number of correct answers. The total will then be displayed on the final slide and they will receive a prize based on their score. I already have the file linking done, it is just the automatic updating of the sheet that needs to be addressed.

If anyone has any suggestions other than this method, let me know.

Thanks for the info. This will be my first time using VBA, so I could use a little direction on implementation. I understand the code and how it works, but I am no sure how to actually include it in a presentation. If someone could provide me with a brief intro to using this code, it would help me out a lot.

Thanks again,
BSV
