Is there a quick way to update the GAL immediately, I have just rename an account with the mailbox enabled user and I try to see the user whether is under the GAL or not, it still didn't show up in the list. I will need this user to be online ASAP, Your help is appreciated.

I know another stupid question: There is a mail profile set up on the desktop where you are using outlook? Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mail.
What error do you receive when connecting via outlook?

Error" the action couldn't completed, the name couldn't be matched to a name in the address list"

account is already enable and self and external are all set to full mailbox permission.

Thanks,

I would try to re-created the mail profile on the workstation.

-if that didnt work-

I would disconnect the Mailbox from the user account using the Exchange task (delete mailbox) from ADUC. This does not actually delete the mailbox on the server, as there should be a retention policy. Run mail-box clean up, you should then see the red X on the mailbox. Right click on the mail-box and re-attach it to the user.

point RUS to your first DC" am I going have any issues if I am going to point my DC to the old one? I am just afraid to make changes and have a big issues.

If you don't feel confident with the procedure test it out first, which is something I would do. Create a new user (test) with a new mailbox. Send some emails to the new user so that there is data. Test the pocedure on the new user to verify the outcome.

Regarding Pointing the RUS - The GAL is maintained in the Global Catalog - just make sure it is pointing to a GC.

after I created the user and send test email to it, I got the following error( I created on the exchanger server with ADUC):

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test
Sent: 8/31/2006 1:58 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'test123456@gotest.com' on 8/31/2006 1:58 PM
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

Verify that the RUS is pointing to a DC that is online.

Check the Event logs on your DCs to verify if you are having AD Replication issues.

Thank you, I will check it now, and I have got the error when I created a new account:

Failed to read attribute msExchUserAccountControl from Active Directory for /O=test and Design/OU=test/cn=Recipients/cn=test12345.

I have just checked all the AD Relication service and force to replicated as well, I still got the same issues.

I have not had time to look up the error, but I will. Have you been able to read the info on the links I sent and has it shed any light on the issue?

I really appreciated your help; It was a hectic day for me, I haven't had the chance to read the information in detail; I will look into it and let you know if I get any progress.

Many thanks,
-Steve

Hi, I have verified both of the MS article and checked all the settings and they all seem right for me. My hair is turning greyer, also, I got the error in my system log:

Source: SMTPSVC; event ID: 2012
SMTP could not connect to the DNS server '10.5.1.8'. The protocol used was 'UDP'. It may be down or inaccessible.

Updates: I finally got the RUS working, I can see all the new acounts got updated in my GAL. I appreciated all the helps from you guys.

I rebuilt my RUS which I think it didn't fix the issue too, so I went ahead add a new RUS to point to DC1 and reboot my Exchanger server;after that, I launched outlook and I was able to see all of my new users and they all show up on the GAL. Dc1 was probably on the RUS list before, but because I shut it down to replace the hardware and all of the sudden my exchange server points the RUS to my Dc2 and Dc3 (could it be possible? I am not really sure. (Dc1 has all of the active directory information); I believed my domain controllers weren't sync with each others, that is probably why the new user won't replicate on the GAL. I thank you for your help and follow up. I might have some other questions later on.

Thank You,
