Update Query for Replacing Values

I need a better understanding of Replace in an update query. I have several characters I need to find and remove from phone numbers, such as:
(
)
-

In a nutshell, I need a string of 10 digits.

 

[PHV]

[Field name]=Replace(Replace(Replace([Field name],'(',''),'-',''),')','')
