Running Windows XP Home and I need to update my McAfee s/w, but it complains that Sophos is installed. Its non in the Add/Remove Programs List.

How can I remove programs like these; RegEdit and how?

Also how can I ensure that when I opt for PC Shutdown that the PC does not restart, this has just occured, needed to buy Spyware and clean up my system.

Many thanks,

Porto.

Hi Porto,

This FAQ could do with an update, which I will do soon. However it will give you some good advice and some free tools to make sure that you are free from viruses and malware.

As for the machine restarting instead of shutting down, I would assume that this is related to the virus/spyware issue that you have at the moment. However try the following and see if you get an error message next time you try and shut down.

Click on Start > Right Click on My Computer > Select Properties > Click on Advanced Tab > Click on Settings under the "Startup and Recovery" heading > Untick the box that says "Automatically Restart" > Click OK Twice.
