Hi All!

Everytime I boot my as5350, it is showing "%Line 0 is not a TTY line" and "% No interface specified for interface_command". What are these and how can I get rid of these? The whole message is as follows: Thanks

System Bootstrap, Version 12.1(2r)XD1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

I don't see any reference to those error messages on CCO. What IOS image are you running?

I've been looking via the net for days now, and no reference about it,... The image file is c5350-is-mz.121-5.xM3.bin. The hardware is Cisco AS5350. I tried other images, but the same result. Pls. help!!!

Interesting. I just checked a few places on CCO and I can't find any reference to it there, either. Where did you get it? I have a suspicion that this is an experimental or engineering release built for a specific purpose. I'd would bet money that it was not intended for general purposes.

My take here, is that there is something the system is seeing in the configuration file that's expected to be a tty line.. which is in line 0...

It also tells me that I may not have a clean configuration file (the physical file itself).... any clues, anyone?

Hello Voicefan, you can setup a downtime window and reload the router ignoring the configuration strat up file... If the router comes up fine then we can have a look for any clues into the config file.

Secondly, if your boot image is not on the same main IOS release you may come across with such error messages. Eg bootimage 12.1 and main IOS 12.3, it is highly recommeded to upgrade the bootimage too. As soon as I get back to work I will have a look into this. By the way, can you paste in here a capture of show version? Cheers and good luck

Thanks to the prompt replies, so far...

Where can I get an updated boot image file, if I may ask?

As a reply to tecnikall, here's the "show version" result.

Voicefan,

You previously said that the image was c5350-is-mz.121-5.xM3.bin, but this output indicates that the image is actually c5350-is-mz.122-2.XA4.bin. It also indicates that the boot IOS is an experimental version which adds weight to my argument that your main image is also experimental.

Where are you getting these images?

John

I agree with you, I know you will come out with that response.

I am working right now on doing your suggestions...

I was in the process of finding out if the same problem will exist, if I will try different IOS versions. It just happened that when I saw your reply, I was doing the 12.2 version of IOS. It resulted that the same messages are coming out on all version of IOS I tried..(I tested it with 3 versions of IOS's)

Although, problem is not resolved yet, let me say, that I appreciate your prompt responses.

Hi Voicefan, changing the main IOS will not have any impact on the error during the booting as they come from the boot image. I would recommed upgrading the bootimage to 12.2, you can find such bootimages on CCO or if you have any other identical router. However, the error you are seeing is a cosmetic defect as it has no impact on your router's performance. Cheers and good luck

If I may ask, is the bootimage the ones in the ROM? Is that the one that you need to remove it physically and replace to upgrade? Thanks

If the bootimage is changeable, can you give me an example of the file name and extension, I have to look for it in the net, because, I don't have access to CCO..

Secondly, how can I setup a downtime window and reload the router ignoring the configuration strat up file?

Thanks and appreciate your prompt responses...

Hi Voicefan,

Not a problem, the bootimage for this platform is loacted on internal boot flash, if you do a show bootflash: you should see your existing bootimage and how much empty space you have left on it (normally the bootflash is around 4 MB in size. Also in the show ver paseted by you:

BOOTFLASH: 5350 Software (C5350-BOOT-M), Experimental Version 12.1(20000922:142008) [nag-flo_t_0110 101]

Example of bootimage: c5350-boot-mz.122-2.XA5.bin

To reload the router ignoring the startup config file:

Make sure that you are console into the unit not telnet as you will not be able to telnet into the router if no configs are in there.

from enable mode:
config t
configuration-register 0x2142
end
reload
you will be asked to save the config as it was changed just say NO to that as the configuration register settings will be saved anyway. On reload you will be asked to enter the setup mode as you don't have anything configured just type in NO . Now the router will be up and running without your config file... To revert just go back into the config mode and change the configuration-rgister 0x2102 relaod and you should be back to normal. Good luck!!!

Hello Tecnikall!

Good news, the annoying message are gone, when I changed to a different register.

Looks like I need to get rid of the configuration files and make a new one.

Just in case I am not able to accomplish removing both the startup and running configuration files, what is the command to do it?

Any suggestions, what do I do from here?

Thanks a lot to your help. It is highly appreciated.

Here's the boot message.....

Hello Voicefan,

Happy to see that the message it's gone... There is only one file you need to remove: Start up config file which is located in NVRAM, from enable mode just issue this ccmmand after you made a backup copy of your existing configs:

wr erase (it will remove the existing startup config file from nvram)
once done reload the unit and you will start from 0 also make sure that you put back the config register value to 0x2102. Cheers and good luck

Thanks for the help Tecnikal, you deserve all the credit on this one!!!
