I have an Epox EP-MVP4M mobo, onboard sound and video, K611 400 CPU, Win 98 SE. This system becomes unstable if more than 64K RAM is fitted. Lock ups, BSOD and spontaneous reboots occur. These do not occur immediately but after at least 30 mins of use. CPU temp is OK (Approx 43c). Several RAM combinations and different modules, known good, have been tried. BIOS settings are conservative. Have tried replacing the onboard video with a PCI card, makes no difference. The system displays no problems with 64K RAM fitted, anything over that the problems occur. I'm stumped, any help would be most appreciated.

Correction...
Must be asleep... RAM sizes are of course MB, not K.
Sorry

Have you tried 2 x 32Mb modules on this board? If the problems occur when more than one memory module is inserted, and all goes pear-shaped after some time has elapsed, it suggests heating-up of the motherboard circuitry. This might be as a result of increased power required to run the additional module(s)? You could also check the PSU. Can you detect any increased in heat output blown out by the fan? Might be worth substituting the PSU just to check...

Thanks for the suggestions, the problem occurs whether 1 or 2 modules are used, ie 1x64 = no problem, 2x64 = problem, 1x128 or 1x256 also = problem. Unfortunately I do not have any 32s to try. The PSU is a thought though, will try it when I get a chance.
